Every factory, warehouse, hospital, hotel, school, and commercial complex in India must adhere to National Building Code (NBC Part 4: Fire and Life Safety) and state Fire Services regulations to obtain and renew a Fire NOC. Choosing the wrong panel architecture can result in failed fire audits and costly re-wiring.
1. How Conventional Fire Alarm Systems Work
In a conventional system, detectors are wired in radial zones (up to 15–20 detectors per zone). When a detector senses smoke, the control panel indicates which zone or floor is in alarm, but cannot pinpoint the exact room. Conventional panels (2 to 16 zones) are economical for small offices, retail stores, and clinics under 10,000 sq. ft.
2. Why Factories, Hospitals & High-Rises Require Addressable Systems
In an Intelligent Addressable Fire Alarm System (such as Honeywell Notifier, Morley-IAS, Bosch, Hochiki, or Ravel), up to 125–250 devices connect on a single loop wire. Each smoke detector, heat detector, manual call point (MCP), and hooter has a unique digital address. If smoke appears in "Server Room 2nd Floor", the LCD panel displays the exact device text immediately and triggers automatic access control door release and elevator grounding.
3. Mandatory NBC Installation Checklist
- Use 2 × 1.5 sq.mm FRLS / Fire Survival (FS) armored copper cable with fault isolator modules every 20 devices.
- Install beam detectors for warehouse ceilings exceeding 8–10 meters in height.
- Maintain complete as-built CAD drawings, loop resistance logs, and quarterly AMC test records.
